This starter comes from our family ranch in North Idaho, where we bake artisan sourdough breads, cookies, and baked goods using traditional methods and simple ingredients. Your dehydrated starter contains a living culture that can be brought back to life in just a few days and used for years to come with proper care.

Whether you're a seasoned baker or making your very first loaf, this starter is designed to help you create delicious homemade sourdough bread with confidence. Once rehydrated, you'll have a healthy, active starter ready to bake beautiful loaves, rolls, pizza dough, pancakes, and more.

Rehydrate Your Caribou Ridge Ranch Sourdough Starter

Welcome to the wonderful world of sourdough!

Your 5g packet of dehydrated sourdough starter contains a living culture that can be revived and maintained for years to come. Follow the steps below to bring your starter back to life and prepare it for baking.


What You'll Need

  • Your 5g dehydrated starter packet
  • Unchlorinated water
  • Organic Unbleached Flour
  • Small jar or container
  • Spoon

Ideal room temperature: 70–75°F


Day 1 – Wake Up the Starter

  1. Add the entire 5g packet of dehydrated starter to a clean jar.
  2. Add 10g warm water.
  3. Stir and let sit for 20–30 minutes to soften.
  4. Add 10g flour.
  5. Mix well.
  6. Cover loosely and leave at room temperature for 24 hours.

Total starter: Approximately 25g


Day 2 – First Feeding

You may not see much activity yet. That's normal!

  1. Add:
    • 15g water
    • 15g flour
  2. Stir well.
  3. Cover loosely and leave at room temperature for 24 hours.

Total starter: Approximately 55g


Day 3 – Begin Strengthening

You should begin seeing bubbles and a slightly tangy aroma.

  1. Discard all but 25g starter.
  2. Feed:
    • 25g water
    • 25g flour
  3. Mix well and leave at room temperature for 12–24 hours.

Total starter: Approximately 75g


Day 4 – Build Activity

  1. Keep 25g starter.
  2. Feed:
    • 50g water
    • 50g flour
  3. Stir thoroughly.
  4. Leave at room temperature for 8–12 hours.

Total starter: Approximately 125g


Day 5 – Ready to Bake!

Your starter is ready when it:

✓ Doubles in size within 4–8 hours after feeding

✓ Has lots of bubbles throughout

✓ Smells pleasantly tangy and yeasty

✓ Looks light and airy

You now have enough active starter to bake your first loaf and continue maintaining your sourdough for years to come.


Starter Maintenance

After baking, keep:

  • 25g starter
  • Feed 25g water
  • Feed 25g flour

Feed daily if stored on the counter or weekly if stored in the refrigerator.
